Columbus Crew has made a significant roster move by signing veteran defender Brooks Lennon through MLS Free Agency. This signing comes just hours after the club traded defender Yevhen Cheberko to LAFC in exchange for an international roster spot. Lennon, who has a decade of experience in Major League Soccer, will be with Columbus through June 2027, with options for two additional seasons. The announcement was made on Tuesday, highlighting the Crew's commitment to strengthening their defense as they navigate the remainder of the season.

Brooks Lennon brings a wealth of experience to Columbus Crew, having spent six seasons with Atlanta United FC and three with Real Salt Lake. During his time in Atlanta, he started 153 of 171 regular season matches, contributing nine goals and 37 assists, making him one of the top performers in the franchise's history. In the 2023 season, he achieved career highs with four goals and 10 assists, showcasing his offensive capabilities as a defender.

Crew General Manager Issa Tall expressed confidence in Lennon's abilities, stating that his versatility and skill set will complement the existing roster. Tall emphasized that Lennon is a hard-working player whose professionalism will enhance competition within the team. This strategic signing is expected to bolster the Crew's defensive lineup as they aim for a successful season.

Lennon himself expressed enthusiasm about joining Columbus Crew, citing the club's excellent facilities and playing style as key factors for his decision. He stated, "I’m extremely excited to be joining the Crew. It’s an incredible organization with amazing facilities, and the way Columbus likes to play fits my style perfectly. I can’t wait to get going, play at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field and bring home wins for our fans."

Before joining MLS, Lennon began his professional career with Real Salt Lake’s residency program and later signed with Liverpool’s academy. He has also made appearances for the U.S. Men’s National Team, debuting against Bosnia and Herzegovina in December 2021. With this new addition, Columbus Crew looks to strengthen their squad and improve their performance in the league.
